The Finns were initially dealt two Move cards and the Russians discarded right off... so, what the heck, Finns decided to move up and 'cover the open ground'. The Russians had two Fire cards and the move up did not go as hoped for the Finns, and made worse when the Russians ran 'right around' and took VP locals '2' & '5'. In this part of the board the forces were dead even, 1 Ldr and 3 squads each, so the Finns went over to the attack and aggressively sought Close Combat, which they got, overstacking the hex but then losing a squad to ambush, the big Close Combat was at net +1 for the Finns. Time 7 Russian 72nd card was a '10' for Close Combat. This ends the turn, Finn's play the advantage card for a new Russian card. The new Russian card is a '12'. The Finns then also draw a '12' so the init comes back to the Finns, who then draw an '11', tie Close Combat. Still a clear Soviet advantage losing 2 units to the Finnish 3 units, though less than absolutely devastating to the Finns, who later get two 'Hidden Units', the first is a leader to replace the leader lost, the second comes in 'behind' the Russians and takes back VP locations '2' & '5'. Though this game became not about VP but about if the Finns would surrender, and in the end they did not by the minimum one unit.
