The Bf 109 pilot extends west, letting his Daimler Benz add some knots to his plane for energy. The Yak pilot pulls down into the vertical, arcing to the north as he does and then vertical rolls as his move steepens to get behind the Bf 109 and tail it. |
The 109 pilot pulls up sharply, forcing a vertical overshoot by the diving Yak pilot. The Yak pulls out of the vertical dive to shallow, and matches the bank angle of the 109. |
The 109 pilot does a steep reversing spiral climb to kick the Yak off his tail and succeeds, though at a great cost in energy. The Yak pilot reverses his bank while pulling into a shallow climb and drives west into the 109's blind spot. |
Rapidly running out of speed, the 109 pilot eases his nose down but using his rudder to slice his tail away from the Yak. In turn, the Yak pilot pulls up into the vertical spiraling sharply as his speed bleeds to set up an intercept angle. At least now, the 109 pilot has a visual again, and improved SA |
The 109 is slow, and despite bumping its nose down and turning, it cannot escape the Yak's gun arc. The Yak pilot fires a burst and sees good hits and thin white smoke (fuel vapor) starts to trail from the 109's shot through fuselage. The 109 pilot has his work cut out for him if he wants to survive. |
