Your bombers operate in flights of 3 in a VEE formation. You may do Level or Shallow Dive Bombing -- Combat Tables Pg 9 gives the Bomb Release Points Tables based on Altitude.
The bombing rules are in Section Chapter 20. There are really 3 target sets appropriate for your type of aircraft -- 1. Runway 2. Hangars 3. POL. First you do not want to be too low as your bombers would be easy targets for FLAK. With a Loaded Speed of 4.5 . Level Bombing at or above 8500ft has a Release Point 19-23 hexes from Target / at or above 7000ft is 18-21 hexes. Shallow Diving at or above 6500ft is only 14-20 hexes. Which reduces the bomb time to fall from 6 or 5 game turns level bombing to 4 game turns for Shallow Bombing. So Shallow Bombing would be your best technique IMHO. So what Altitude -- 8000ft to start would probably be good and do not descend below 6500ft. You are safe from all Russian AA except for the 37mm guns above 6000ft. You need to do 2 turns of Aiming to get full advantage of bombing modifiers. So Target selection – you can use all 6 aircraft to bomb one of the target sets -- Runway, Hangar or POL. Or split into 2 flights of 3 and hit 2 different target sets. Your choice Runway Target – you pick an Aim Point (where bombs would hit) - so example Runway hex 2833. Your release point needs to be 14-20 hexes from 2833 on a NE heading so closest point would be hex 2224 Hangar Target – pick an Aim Point - so example Hangar in 3030. Release point 14-20 hexes from 3030 on NE heading POL Target – pick an Aim Point - so example Fuel Truck between POL storage tanks in 2133. Release point 14-20 hexes on E heading So what I need is - Pick which one or two targets you want to bomb – between Runway, Hangars and POL. If you want all 6 to bomb the same target then pick 2 Aim Points from those targets for each flight of 3 bombers – so 3 bombers will bomb each aim point location. Your bombers can start between 7500ft and 8500ft – you pick the altitude. You will need to plan a Release Point for each group of 3 bombers – the lead bomber in the VEE is the bomber that they all drop on the same time. So from our examples above your release point would be 14-20 hexes from the Aim Point. If you plan on bombing two different targets then each flight with start in either 1107 NE vs Runway or 1203 NE vs Hangars or 3602 E vs POL depending on which targets you picked. If two sets against same target then I will adjust your starting hexes. And forgot to mention you could do Steep Dive Bombing as well but you might want to leave that to the Stuka pilots! |
